Epilogue: As the silvery water ran down the dark cave side, Larrin, a thirteen year old gray boy, thought of the simpler times in his life. The time when he and his mother took walks along the Great Wall, and talked of a better time. The entire past seemed like a faint dream, and the reality of his plight was the only thing that was real. Every once awhile he would look out into the dark semi lit sky and wonder would the madness end. Then out his left ear he would hear the faint water drop on the cave floor. The past few days he had been here. To provide shelter from the storms and give him a place to feel like home. His mind drifted back to his mother telling him that all people need some where they can rebuild what the world takes away from them. Every now and then they like to call where ever they are home. Larrins mother, her words kept echoing through his mind. Before the Civil War of 2045, his mother would tell him what the country was like, and in between the black out periods he would dream of that world. There were problems but none like what he had faced over the past few years. Bloop, another drop hits the cold rocky cave bottom. There is nothing but silence through the entire cave. I wonder could I go deeper to build a fire, Larrin thought? No the HCPs (Hunter Cop Patrols) might be near by. From atop the rocky hill side Lariin had a spectacular view of the city, but for all its beauty he knew the truth. They were starting the Cleansing Campaign, hundreds were being shipped off to the Con-Camps (Concentration Camps) and worked until they either died, or were killed. A cold shiver made his hairs stand on end, the thought of his mother in the unfortunate group of laborers. The wind picked up and a ghostly howl could be heard coming from behind him. The feeling of anger was replaced by the feeling of depression. The winds hands embraced Larrin in a cold hug, and the young boy balled tighter into his, already fetal position. His legs ached from the running, the small of his back throbbed from the Lance Sticks, but he ignored the pain and thought of happier times. The wind, as like a messenger, delivered a strange noise to Larrins ears. From what he heard, it sounded like two or three guards, but there was a strange muffled sound among them. Curiosity got him to want a closer look. Carefully he made his way in the direction of the noise. His bare feet, some what swollen, ached under the jagged edges of the rock, but he paid it no mind. Slowly and very carefully, sometimes looking behind and in front of him, he made his way to the sound. Climbing, to what could be an over hang, Larrin looked through the crack and saw what the muffled sound was. The guards were bad about beating the elders of the camps, but this was something new to him. They had a little fifteen or sixteen year old girl. She was scurfy looking, but looked like she was well cared for, in so much that she had some weight around her face and neck. The guards had bound and gagged, Larrin eyes widened as the guards began to undress her and get undressed. Hi mind began to race, and at that moment he turned and looked away; but against the cliffs wall he saw the silhouette of what was happening. Another gust of crisp cold wind cut around his neck and ears. Those same chills ran through him, as the men continued. He found himself contemplating to leave when another gust could cover his scrambling, or to fight the men. Another cold crisp gust slapped the nap of his neck, and he decide to leave. Thinking to himself, that if he got involved, he would then not only seal his fate, by being captured, but the chances of finding his mom would be null. The wind grew stronger as if it were pushing him away from the scene faster, but deep inside his gut he knew that he was wrong. Pausing just twenty feet away from the overhang, the wind grabbed Lariins face and made his eyes squint, once it died down he heard the young girl screaming. The wind seemed to carry the sound like the trans-comms. Lariin turned back in the direction of the overhang and with his hand firmly placed on the rocky ledge, he crawled back to the overhangs underside. Once he was back on his view spot he saw the men and how they looked and gleamed with a sort of devilish gleam in their eyes. Larrin knew the Larr Nega would emerge once he started the fight, he was feeling guilty for taking lives. He began to think of his mothers words about the gift he received, and what it ment for all. Oooh please stop!!!, the young girl screamed out. One man snapped back in a mocking tone, Little Nega well stop after youve done your job here, he pointed down to his groin area. The other men just looked and grinned. The sound of the pleas, were to much for him to take. Larrin knew what had to be done. As one of the men began to mount the girl a blinding light flashed behind the over-hang. The men paused, scared one of them told another to investigate the flash, reluctantly the man went behind and out of sight. The other men heard screams then a sound of tearing and gushing. The wind howled and began to blow steadily. As if it were alive the wind picked up debre and tossed it in the two men faces. The girl was curled up in the fetal position and making a muffled crying sound. The wind blew ever so hard, the men looked at one another, and got their firearms out. You go to one side and Ill jump it from the top, The obese man said in a fearful tone. The other man, average height, with long brownish hair and a five 0clock shadow, nodded and walk around the right side of the over hang. The wind blew this time at a force that seem to want to escape from a cage. The young girl looked around for the men, but they were gone. Inside the clearing she looked up and around for the men, but all she saw was some strange looking silhouette. She gathered her ragged clothes, and began to rise to her feet, when a force pushed her down. The young girl froze with terror, then as though the wind had come alive she heard a low thundering voice. You have been spared to tell of me, so go and tell those who believe and those with no hope that I come. The tears swelling up in the girls eyes began to roll down her dirty cheeks. As though she had a lump in her throat, she found the courage to speak, despite the apparent shaking. Who do I say is that hope? she asked at almost a whisper. The wind died down for a few second and then blew sand and rock up, The Mighty Nega!!! Through the dark Larrin, back to himself, saw the girl running, tripping, but screaming the Mighty Nega has come. Larin thought about his mother and smiled, which he hadnt done in along time...... |
